Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! All our pellets are En-Plus A1 grade- meaning they are the highest-quality pellet on the market. To meet this A1 standard they go through rigorous daily testing throughout every step of the production and delivery cycle. You can find us listed on the approved En-Plus producers and traders list for further details or read our ‘About Us’ page.
Yes! Our wood pellets are all made from material that has been sourced from a maximum of 50 miles away- cutting down on the carbon footprint. In addition to this, all materials are sawmill by-products, meaning that no trees were felled with the intention of making the pellets- sort of like recycling!
All material comes from sustainably managed forests, meaning they won’t contribute to deforestation in the UK. To make the pellets we also use a combined heat and power system that uses energy generated by biomass, not fossil fuels. We are one of the only UK producers to have installed this system as sustainability is at the heart of everything we stand for at SDL Group.
Our pellets are made from top-quality by-products of softwood from UK sawmills (within a 50-mile radius!). A mixture of sawdust and wood chip are combined before entering the factory…these then begin the pelleting process.
Beginning with the wet hammer mill, to reduce the chip size, the mixture is then fed through a dryer to reduce the moisture content.
Following this, a second hammer mill is used to reduce the chip size further, this material is then fed in a pellet press where the pellets are extruded and fed into a chiller to cool.
Finally, we then have the option of sending them to the silo for storage for blown and bulk deliveries, or to the bagging line where we can bag 15kg bags for pallets.
The raw material that we use to produce SDL Pellets come from our byproducts of our sawmill which processes sustainably harvested FSC® material. This means no material is wasted as it is recycled into pellets, which also means no trees were felled with the intention to make our wood pellets.
We use a haulier to deliver our pallets, they collect the pallets from our factory in the afternoon Monday-Friday, and then within 4 working day’s they will call you and arrange a convenient delivery inside of the 5-7 day turnaround time.
Express delivery is also an option, this is 1-2 working days (Monday- Friday!), this option is available at checkout.

We began trading in 2018, and after a few years of producing top-quality pellets we decided we wanted to grow as a company. This meant we ceased trading to build an even bigger pellet plant so we could keep up with supply, this then reopened in 2022 when we began trading again! See our ‘About Us’ page for more details.
If you have restricted access we would need to use a 7.5-tonne delivery vehicle, they can ONLY deliver half-sized pallets, please also note this at checkout that you’d require a smaller vehicle.

Yes! Wood pellets can absord up to 3x their mass making htem a very effectie animal litter. They are also very easy to clear up and contain no harmful chemicals.
We make our wood pellets here in Gloucestershire, UK! Many wood pellets are imported from America or the Continent, however, at SDL Pellets we only provide top quality, sustainably sourced wood pellets, made by our experts in Chipping Campden..
Softwood pellets are more cost effective than hardwood pellets, also when you’re using them in a pizza oven there is no time for the food to become flavoured from the wood, therefore, making softwood the better option.
SDL Pellets deliver nationwide! We make the pellets in gloucestershire, but out fleet of trucks deliver all over the country as well as our pallets.
En-Plus A1 Wood Pellets are the best quality pellets available. All of our pellets meet this standard as a minimum, additionally SDL Pelelts are made of sustainable sourced materials and produced using biomass energy.
The Biomass Suppliers List (BSL) is a registry of wood fuel approved for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) program.
Wood pellet heat output depends on their calorific value (kWh/t), essentially the stored energy. The higher the value, the more heat they generate. ENPlusA1 standard requires at least 4,600 kWh/t, while SDL Pellets produce a 4,800 kWh/t minimum. This high output means that they are great value for money compared to cheaper imported pellets with a low output!
